The art is created from "scratch" that is I start
with a blank canvas and go from there--creating everything. (the
exception being a few instances where I either used a digitized
photo for a template or as color maps-some of which are explained
below)

The creation of the artwork is as follows:
Mars Direct
was/is being created in Bryce 2.0 using Mars terrain elevation
data provided by NASA on CD. The areographical
data
maps use a Mars map
courtesy of Sky Publishing Corporation.
Stonegrays and Stonecolors,
with the exception of "Watercircles"
which was done in Painter, started as an exercise in Photoshop
to see what I could do with just the selection tools and filters.
I discovered the possibilities are endless.
Planet Builders, Planet
X, Memory, and Explorers,
were created in MetaTool's Bryce 1.0 when I decided to see what
else I could do in Bryce besides landscapes.
Surreal's "Dune
1", "Radio Olive",
"Mars Sails at Sunset",
and "Saturn Sunset
46" are also created in Bryce 1.0.
"Move Reflections"
was created with Alias Sketch and Poser.
"Road Overhead"
was created with Alias Sketch.
"Pipes 17", the
olives in "Olive Wall"
(composited in Photoshop), and "Vase
with Olive" were created in Raydream Designer 2.0.
Scapes' art was created in Bryce 1.0
with thanks to Wavesworld for the wave generating terrain map
application used for "Sea
Calm 59" and "Warm
Sea 07".
"Parrot's Eye 12"
was created in Photoshop.
Impressions' pieces were created
in Fractal Design Painter.

Some of the instances where I digitized for templates or as color
maps are:
"Old 'D'"
uses a photo, taken on my grandfather's farm in the 1930s, for
a template that I sketched over in Fractal Design Painter. (This
tractor was still in use in the 1950s & 60s on his farm.
The "Old D" was many different things to my brother
and me every summer when we played on it-spaceship, airplane,
tank, etc.)
The "Memory" series
was created in Bryce 1.0 and uses various photos and objects
for color maps.
"Standstill
01" was created in Photoshop. The boy's shadow was created
from a photo my father took of me when I was 5 years old. It
was originally titled "Stand Still Damn It" but since
I don't actually remember ever hearing my father swear it stands
as now named.
"Diner 22"
uses a photo for a template that I sketched over in Fractal Design
Painter.
